While I was not a member of the Nordic Ski team, I was a member of another varsity sports team at Gustavus, and I support this petition 100%. From what I know, the GAC Nordic Ski team was extremely competitive and successful as an NCAA team, and it would be sad to see that disappear because it doesn't fit into the "interests of the college"

College students should not have programs like these cut.
Being from the lower mitten of Michigan, I was never exposed to modicum skiing until I came to college here at Michigan Tech. The amount of work, dedication and joy put into this sport is outstanding and not found in most sports. Without the MTU ski team, I would not have been able to find the resources to try skiing myself. I can get help with my skiing technique or learn more from my friends who are in the program. As a cross country and track athlete for MTU, I can now use this new found sport as a way to break up the winter running. Don't cut a valuable program that has taught me so much by standing in the sidelines. It isn't just about the athletes in the sport, but those standing on the aide of the course that love Nordic skiing as well.

The reasoning sounds vague and shady, and shows how little integrity the school president, AD, etc have. It's all about money despite what the school administrators say. Except that now they're potentially eliminating 20+ athlete's tuitions who should rightfully transfer to other schools with ski programs. 20 athletes times $40,000 for tuition = $800,000. I'm curious how cutting nearly a million dollars from revenue will "save" you money Gustavus...

Nordic Skiing is a great sport and should not be cut. Skiing is already scarce in many colleges and shouldn't be eliminated from this one.

Nordic skiing is a tradition here in MN and would be sad to see it die! Plus its a great way to keep active in the winter!

That was the deciding factor in choosing Gustavus Adolphus over other schools.It would really be a sad day if this wonderful asset would be eliminated

It seems odd to cut something that attracts top students who go on to do great things post-Gustavus as well. Gustavus loves to be unique (for example, we cannot call them RAs, we have to call them CFs just to be different). Why not keep something that makes you unique, especially when many Minnesota students specifically choose Gustavus because it allows them to continue to ski at a competitive level and experience the purity of DIII NCAA athletics? Division III athletics are incredibly important to the story of my time at Gustavus and I cannot imagine taking that away from anyone.

Eliminating Nordic skiing as a collegiate sport is devastating. I was a collegiate athlete at a liberal arts college and it shaped my liberal arts education. The friendships i developed competing in college, continue to have a huge impact on my life. I also want to point out that Nordic Skiing is a lifelong sport and these athletes are examples of "healthy lifestyles". Isn't that what we want to pass on?

I am truly disappointed to hear of Gustavus cutting its Nordic ski program. This is a major blow to the CCSA and the greater cross-country skiing community of the upper midwest.

As a college in the State of Minnesota,it does not make sense to remove Nordic Skiing as a varsity sport
