As a former High School xc racer, I can honestly say that skiing belongs at GAC, and every Minnesota college. This is truly a sport that belongs in the varsity line-up. It is inexpensive to run, boosts spirits and brains, and in my case, even gave me a husband!

Nordic skiers are some of the hardest working athletes! cutting this sport from your college would be a mistake.

If it is not about money, performance of the team, or academic standards there is no reason to cut a sports team. Especially for a sport so popular in this region.
On my way to college this year I will be forced to give up one of my favorite things about highschool, being on my school Nordic ski team. I will keep skiing on my own but would do just about anything to have another chance to join another team and have a plethora of wonderful adventures with it. Sports are a vital part of shaping who the athletes grow up to be and you can not find a better group of people then those who participate in this sport(or at least in my experience.) If this sport was canceled "not because of monetary issues"and just because it somehow "it does not fit into the schools future" I would like to see what happens to beloved big sports like football or track.....i would also like those cutting the program to think about what would they feel like if there favorite sport team they were on was killed so disrespectfully when they were young.....

Skiing is extremely beneifical to the students, future students, and the school as a whole. For those who look forward to the team, It should remain for their sake.

Being a HS Nordic coach, I will have to direct the enthusiastic Nordic skier, who is always an enthusiastic academic student, to seek collegiate Nordic teams at the east coast schools - or St. Olaf. Is that what GAC is looking for? And wait, you say you're a Swedish school??

The Nordic Ski team at Gustavus is an extremely valuable and important aspect to the college. Nordic skiing is a sport that provides inclusiveness, all who desire are able to participate. It is a life-long sport and teaches the rewards of persistence and determination. As the medical community becomes more aware of the inherent long-term dangers of contact sports and concussions, NON contact athletic activities such as Nordic Skiing should be seen as the future of sports in an academic setting. Finally, Nordic skiing is part of the heritage and culture of the Sweden and should remain as an important part of the culture and heritage of Gustavus Adolphus College.

Provide a real reason to cut this sport.
