Whose idea is this? With a new president soon to arrive, I would recommend that any cuts to programs be strongly resisted and await the evaluation by the new president. Is the decistion by the athletics department an honest evaluation of what are the "interests of the college" or is it a decision that is based on suspect criteria? The new president's arrival is in the summer of 2014, surely this decision can wait.

I started Nordic skiing late in my high school career solely as a means to stay in shape. Right away, I fell in love with the sport because of the people I got to meet along the way. One of my high school coaches is a graduate of the Gustavus Ski program. He's one of the most well rounded people I know and a role model for me and many others. He was also the one who encouraged me to continue skiing in college, which is some of the best advice I've ever gotten. The Gustavus ski program turns out professional young men and women and has earned itself a good reputation in the skiing community. To see it fall apart so suddenly breaks my heart. Please show your support in any way possible for the Gustavus ski team.

This decision makes no economic sense with all the tuition paying skiers who come to GAC to ski race. Have you really thought this through?

The decision to cut the Nordic Skiing program seems to have come without a lot of discussion or debate or even knowledge to all involved. Many have chosen your school with interest in this program. Seems to me you should have at least given them the consideration of letting them defend their sport before announcing it was canceled. This seems very wrong in so many ways. Hope to hear that you are reconsidering your decision.

Gustavus' Swedish tradition includes skiing--moreso than many mainstream sports. GAC should realize that nordic recruits as well as develops its participants. Above all, Gustavus' administration needs to COMMUNICATE and discuss these decisions. If resources are tight, talk with us about college goals and resource allocations rather than surprising the campus (and alumni) with unilateral cuts to nordic, the vocation office, and other parts central to who Gustavus is.

I am disappointed by this news. Discontinuing a sport due to the fact that there are few other competing teams in the conference can only lead to poor diversity of athletics and campus life as a whole.

Gustavus has a great tradition of skiing in a state where skiing is really valued by families looking at spending a high price on college. With creative fundraising, it would be great to see Gustavus tackle any budgetary issues and keep this Olympic pipeline sport alive.
