Please save the music. My mom is an alumni from 1990 and my sister and I went through this program. This program was a big help when my mom passed away.

Music increases over performance in math and foreign languages. I am one of 7 children. All of us graduated from GGSHS, me in 1965. We were all greatly involved in music. Three of my siblings obtained a BA in Music.

I'm not sure why this is starting to happen. Derry Area also is not currently rehiring a choral teacher after the retirement of the last one the school had (after 2 other retired before her). So it went from 3 to 1 and now, 0. Music is incredibly important to have in schools. Please do not end these programs. This is a complete shame and shouldn't even be on the table for discussion. Shame on all these school districts!

I am a 1980 GSHS alum. I was heavily involved in both the band and chorus. Being in both groups were the highlights of my high school years. I continue to stay in contact with many band and choir friends.
I continued my music career in college and as my husband’s assistant band director until he retired several years ago. I also have continued my musical performance as a member of the Williamsport Symphony orchestra and several local community bands. My daughter is also an elementary classroom/vocal/instrumental teacher in MD.
I personally have seen and experienced the cutting of music programs in the public schools in the area where I live now. That has only led to the decline in the music departments in the schools and frustration to overloaded music teachers left in the district.
Music is so very important to all students. It is VITAL to have a strong elementary instrumental band program. Students need to start learning to play an instrument in elementary school. My elementary directors Graham Grubb and John Schetroma gave me the excellent start to a very successful instrumental career that continues to this day!
You cannot have students wait until middle school to start learning an instrument. You need students coming into MS ready to advance their instrumental learning in band and lessons. Your elementary instrumental programs feeds your MS program which feeds your HS program. You MUST have all three parts of this puzzle.
Young people that are part of band and choir learn so much to use later in life from being part of those music programs. It’s a proven fact MUSIC MAKES YOU SMARTER! Many students continue to participate in community music groups way past HS graduation.
PLEASE I cannot beg you enough to please not cut Mr Tribble’s position when he retires. My husband and I worked with Steve when he taught in PMEA District 8. We know what an excellent teacher he is and I was so happy when I knew he was moving to Greensburg to be a part of the GSHS m

Music helps to develop young minds to be more creative, successful, and gives them time to relax with all the pressure they are under. I was in the band, choir, and other activities that involved music. Those are my most memorable days in school. Plus the friends that I met, got close to and we are still close.
Please keep the music in the school. It is very important to have that activity.

I believe the band program is very important to our schools. The band leads the school in pep rallies, parades ,the football games, veterans day programs, etc. Elementary school is where it all begins. We need a band teacher in the elementary schools so we have more members in the band for high school. Music is very important and if our schools discontinue the elementary band program the school and community will suffer .

Keep the music program. To some, this program helps kids feel a little better, hell its probably the highlight of some kids day. You have no idea what some kids go thru and how they take the time in school to truly appreciate it because who knows there home life might be awful. SAVE THE MUSIC PROGRAM

Music is so important in the growth and development of children. Please add to your wonderful music program instead of detracting from it. It gives children pride and discipline and appreciation of something that will last a lifetime. It provides an opportunity for all children to shine. Don’t take away from a program that is so important and loved !
