Music is everything. It shapes us as people and helps those with problems cope. Every song and tune out there, someone can relate to. Relating to music can change a mood, a heart, a soul and a life.

One of your previous band students has become our Band Director at Trinity High school. He has made a world of difference to our kids in the music program and without your program that would not have been possible.

To the GS School Board and Administration, I am very disheartened to hear about the possibility of losing an important position in the GS band program. I am a 2002 GS grad, and played drums, sax, and was even drum major for 2 years. The band and music programs at GS were the most important to me and taught me more critical thinking and team work skills than any other class in all my years. I currently work in NYC as a music supervisor for an Emmy award winning entertainment company. My music direction garnered me a 2009 Emmy award and even as if today I’ve was working with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s team on music and recording. Without the music programs I had growing up in Greensburg I would have never achieved such success. These teachers were mentors and helped me get accepted to NYU and taught me so much about how to be an upstanding adult and leader. If you lose this position there are hundreds of future “me’s” that will never have the training to follow their dreams. “You can cut the arts programs all you want to save reading and writing, but in the end these kids won’t have anything to read or write about.” - Mr Holland’s Opus. Please think of your positions as the guardians of our future world and keep this critical position hired.

Hire a replacement. Music is very important at all levels. Not to mention a universal language that build a common ground among others.

As a former band mom I know the importance of having music in our kids lives. My child had another " family" which was important throughout her life. Her love for musical instruments began in elementary school and is still with her.

Music is important for children to learn and understand. Band should be accessible for anyone who wants to play. Why punish these kids by taking it away when it is giving them a positive outlet for their emotions?! In this day and age, kids need an outlet for their emotions, giving them no means to express themselves only causes harm to them and others. These kids are worth the dollars spent on them!!!!
