Music is something that can have a lifelong effect. The sooner it is formally introduced, the better the student will benefit.

Music plays a part of all cultures throughout all of recorded history and should be cultivated and given the highest of priorities when educating. Math, Music and Science are all intertwined. Cannot have one without the others. Math is the model, Science tells us why, but music makes it a story and allows us to understand.
Music does not just raise the IQ, it is an integral part of the IQ.

It's unfortunate that the district is selling this music department short. What they get done, already short staffed, is incredible. The district should be eager to improve upon Steve's legacy of work instead of giving the next generation of Greensburg Salem students an overworked and understaffed music department. I am extremely opposed to the cutting of this elementary band position. The students deserve better.

my daughter is 3rd grader at metzgar and is looking forward to being able to be in the band next year,

Many kids still enjoy band and that is the only thing the enjoy. It should be offered in all Schools.

People see band or chorus as an “extra” class but I believe, and have always believed, that music is just as important as math and reading. It has mental and physical advantages. Your brain function is literally improved by music.

The method of how we pay for education must be changed. Funding from school district to school district should be equal. Everyone deserves the best education possible no matter where you live.

Both of my children were heavily involved in the band, chorus, and musical theatre program in school. My daughter grew up to become an art teacher and directs the musicals at her middle school. She married a music teacher. Both of them recently purchased a home in the Greensburg Salem School District. They would be heart broken to know that their children would not have access to these classes. Also, I am a graduate of Gbg Salem and former member of the band. I would fight for the music program in any school. The HS band could suffer tremendously from this cut.

I admit I'm a STEM kinda guy and can't play or sing a note. I also understand public sector budgeting. I also have seen first hand what music can do. I've seen it reach kids that otherwise don't get reached. I've seen kids learn to focus on other subjects as a result of music. I've seen kids become self disciplined as a result of music. I've seen kids work together as a result of music. This is NOT a new position. This is a position that has been in the budget and needs to stay in the budget.

Studies show that playing an instrument raises IQ levels. Also helps kids in other areas of study.

Short staffed and all this is true but you got to do something about the marching band that had a tremendous tradition at Salem High School.
