Since I graduated in 1977, I've seen the band program go down hill and I think it's a shame. I believe a music program is even more important than sports. Any one can participate in music but not everyone can participate in sports. Music can also be used all your life but sports cannot. And no one gets hurt in music programs. It's time more emphasis was placed on music programs than on sports.

I graduated from Greensburg-Salem in 1983. Students depend on band for scholarships. Shouldn’t remove maybe the only way they can afford college.

There are too many petitions like this out there. Too many music programs struggle to survive. I’ve met hundreds of adults that regret not learning an instrument as a kid, but I’ve never met a single person that regretted being in band. This opportunity needs to be available students. Lack of music education at the elementary level will destroy it at the middle and high school levels. Please have some common sense!!!

My family is not a part of this particular district, but my children are involved in our own music program. If one school decides it’s not important to fill this position others may follow suit. The music program, beginning in elementary school is too valuable a program to keep quiet, not speak up, and sign this petition to show support. It is through music my kids have found their niche, & it began with amazing, and so very important elementary teachers. All students should have access to a quality music program. Many children will only have what is offered to them in public school, so this is certainly one we must continue to get behind and support.

Once an avid band member, forever an avid band member! Not every kid is cut out to be a football player, cheerleader, track athlete! Keep the band program! The earlier the better for the students!

How can a district without music attract talented people into the district who will increase revenues and improve the entire district?

As the son of an elementary music band teacher and a professional performer over the last 20 years, it is imperative that the foundation of a music program begin at the elementary level and be allowed to continue to thrive at GS. Aside from the cognitive skills the arts foster, the camaraderie and sense of self worth that blossom into learning how to be part of a greater good outside yourself can all begin here. In the early 90s, a small group of us banded together to go before the school board to show the worth in reestablishing the musicals at the high school level, and now 25 years later, students in the middle school and high school are benefiting from the inspiration the arts can teach us. Don’t allow the foundation that these tenets are based on to crumble.
