There is a school of thought that whilst parking charges provide a small temporary increase in Council income, conversely there is reduction in town centre footfall, a relative fall in retail rents and therefore a significant reduction in net collectable business rates by the Council over the longer term. Not a very bright idea frankly.

Town centres need all the help they can get. Free parking encourages people to come in to Sudbury, making it a really user friendly and welcoming place.

It's not the time to do even think of doing this when town centres and the high street are in such a bad way. On top of that there are going to be people also struggling financially due to job losses. It's very very wrong.

This is unforgivable that BDC thinks it’s plausible to change the parking fees in Sudbury. It’s challenging for any retail trade to survive without scaring customers away.

Its amazing to have free parking for 3 hours. So many people that I know from out of town also will not shop in Sudbury anymore. So sad to lose this as so bad for shops especially in these hard times
