Charging for parking will destroy what's left of high street shopping

It’s a crazy idea to introduce parking charges when our high street is under such pressure.

Protect the high street, help local people to access local amenities and support local businesses during what is going to be a financially challenging time for many.

I will drive from just outside Colchester to Sudbury because the parking is free & it's easy to park.

It is well known just how much towns and high streets are struggling at the moment, so having to pay to park will only force people to go elsewhere. More shops will close.

Parking free for 3 hours means we can enjoy shopping, supporting the market, visiting the library and enjoying walks without it costing anything. The town centre needs to encourage visitors and parking fees will reduce numbers.

The total lack of thought to support local business is appealing

This will cause shops to struggle even more than they are at the moment. I do not understand why the people who make these decisions do not see this!

With residents of surrounding villages in both Essex and Suffolk contributing more to the local economy than those living in the town itself, 3 hours free parking is essential to the vitality of the town.

With the severe impact on local businesses which Covid has caused, and which will last for some time, the priorityh must be to do everything possible to encourage economic recovery and to avoid action which could harm it. Free parking has to be seen in that context. Now is not the time to introduce charges.

Add Hadleigh to the petition for exactly the same reasons

I oppose limiting free parking to 1 hours only. I wold like to retain 2 hours with Girling Street allocated as 30 free mins only.

The town has been ahead of the game offering free parking for high St , but dear old Babergh will at some time reduce free parking from three hours to one hour .

Babergh's councillors are showing a stunning lack of commercial awareness.

With the difficulties experienced by the Retail section I believe it essential to maintain free parking in Sudbury particularly to encourage retailers now that Winch and Blatch are closing.

We cannot allow this! This would kill any possible resurgence of business after lockdown.
