Shame on you Wigan MBC. This is an important hub of the community.

It's outrageous that Wigan Council allow someone else to do all the hard work for free then swoop in now they can see the cafe is so popular. It's tantamount to theft.

This pinacle of the community should not be devalued by putting out to tender. It shows that people care and value the area in which they live. This service demonstrates that community spirit is alive and well; whereas the council see only £ signs.

Absolutely disgusted with Wigan Council's decision. Turning away volunteers for whatever reason is diabolical.

It's obviously developed into something of value due to the hard work of volunteers. Why would this then be betrayed by the people who are supposed to support, encourage and represent such positive acts of community action. I would urge the council to think of the long term damage caused and how this could have a negative impact on the morale of other voluntary groups. With the ever decreasing budgets is it really a wise decision to alienate people who save you money by providing services which you cannot afford anymore? Think of the wider costs too, there may well be people who rely on such venues as a valuable element of their social network. What are the long term financial implications which usually arise when such action has been taken in the past? Might help to think outside the box for a change.

A commercial venture would not be able to match the service and community spirit provided by FOPHP without pricing themselves out of business. Leave them be.

Wigan should be ashamed. They are trying to cash in on all the hard work that this group has done.

I think it is awful what the council is going to do! All the hard work that everyone has put into making the tea room a success and making it fantastic for the whole community.
