Really unfair on the community. The council should be ashamed serving notice.

I am disappointed in the way the council are treating this little cafe a pillow of the community.

A local community group called Friends of Pennington Hall Park set up a voluntary group they took over a rundown building within the parks grounds and made a lovely , cosy, little cafe, they have organised community events that involve all ages of the community and creates a lovely atmosphere within the park, they really have brought this park back to life. They have just been informed that after they have been given a 5 yr lease on the building they have just been informed by the local council that they have 6 mths left and the building is being put to tender. These people and the local community are devastated as they really have put their heart and soul into this project

It would be a terrible mistake shutting this cafe down. The volunteers are such lovely people and they deserve to carry on with it

It is not about the tea rooms or the park but the current volunteers that run it. The returning clientele that come back for the friendly welcome and a chat, sometimes the only one they get all week. The Christmas day meals for the ones on their own for Christmas is just one of the community things they do. Being put out to tender will make it about business not community spirit. Why try to change a success story? Council always bleat on about community then want the to rip the heart out of it. Instead of sitting in your office putting pen to paper making decisions on something you probably know nothing about - go out and experience the tea rooms and the volunteers and then ask yourself why it needs to change.

There is absolutely no reason why this facility should be closed down, other than to somehow make money. The place is run by volunteers who have built it up from nothing and it just seems that as soon as the council see something doing well, it's a matter of ' we''l have a bit of that success thanks and make some money out of it'. I find it an absolute disgrace that this can even happen.

I feel disgusted with Wigan council regarding their plans for the cafe which is currently run by the Friends of Pennington park and will certainly boycott visiting the cafe should the change take place. What an insult it would be to all the hard working volunteers.
