this place has so much potential. The best person to buy this for the county would be Steve Kalafer! He's a Hunterdon county community man and would make this place state of the art!!

My friend's son and daughter are in this rink constantly (too many times a week to count) for hockey and figure skating - I see the joy those kids get from participating and learning and skating - I grew up in a local ice rink, I would hate to see this rink close.

Ive heard the rent being charged by the owner (rumor ) as extremely high. Go on loopnet and look at what the owner wanted to rent the turf side of the building for. (U can see its still vacant). The owners have the power , buding is assessed 3.7 mil with 84k tax yearly tax bill. Do the numbers, this reminds me when flemington speedway was closing, lots of unhappy people, petitions etc. At the end of the day it about having or getting the money to buy and or run a rink, which is expensive. The most successful rinks are in fact county run faculties. If hunterdon county shows an interest we have a shot, if not we need some very deep pockets to keep this rink.

I have been searching for a sport my second grade son would interest in. It is very important for children to be out of the house and active, instead of in front of an electronic. He's tried soccer, baseball, lacrosse... He was uninterested. When we mentioned hockey, his eyes lit up (just like they did when I mentioned the other sports). The true test was when he actually got on the ice. It was a much more different experience. He had so much fun and learned so much in such a short time. He finished his first round in Learn to Skate and we signed him up for a second round. He was devastated when he heard the rink was closing and annoyed that if he wanted to continue, we would have to take a drive to Bridgewater --he hates the car! It would mean so much to our family if the town could step in and save the rink.

There aren't many places for these children to go to have and spend time with their friends. Now what?

I totally agree. Where else or what else does this County have? A gymnastics establishment but do any one of these children want to flip on mats or walk balance beam? You answer that. Where will they end up to get together? The local convenience store parking lots which cause havoc in parking lots and will eventually get old then what? Hanging around doing nothing is only going to lead to dysfunctional activities. There’s only a few ways to go here. Electronics, sports, dance/gym and sitting around doing nothing. A lot of families have more than one child in activity at one time. Trying to gather these kids to drive 45 minutes will only deter and eventually fade out. The movie theater is gone, pool hall, skate park, I mean for a County that is so high on charts and a township with such high taxes, it’s really sad that there is no place for the children. Does not sound very kid friendly to neither me nor anyone else thinking about moving in. Just feel there should be some place this County has for the children
