Essentials provides a valuable service to students, to take this away will detract immensely from the student experience. In addition to this job losses will also negatively impact the students across Kent and Greenwich.
I may be leaving soon but some good friends work undeniably hard at Essentials and it would be a shame for them to have to leave it all behind

How ridiculous - essentials is one of very few resources the campus offers, and to shut it would be silly. not to mention the unnecessary redundancies it will cause!

The Medway campus is quiet enough compared to Canterbury campus and if such shops, like essentials, shut it will become even less important. we should rather signing for opening another shop/cafe/facility! not shut the only one that is there!

I was saddened to hear the news that Essentials may be potentially, closing down. Essentials offers a nice 'revision/stress' break from students studying in the library and it would enhance the stress levels of all if this was to happened.

The fact that permanent members of staff with over 20 years of service with Kent Union will be out of a job is appalling in itself. The reasons are understandable but surely there's more that can be done to save the shop rather than just outright closing it?
Not to mention the new student staff who have literally just started.
It's called essentials for a reason guys!

This is ridiculous! Whenever I go in it's busy which speaks for itself in how important it is for our campus as well as the jobs it provides. Whilst other campuses have multiple shops and in many cases restaurants, medway has only essentials and coopers (pilkington is outside catered) that provide for 3 universities and yet we are once again the forgotten campus!

I completely agree, something that is a Essential! Pun intended! A shop that is used and loved by all. With friendly staff that are going to loose their jobs (mostly students subsidising their degrees).

Kent Union - the not-for-profit organisation that 'puts the students first' is closing an essential student shop as it isn't making them money.
Time for the people at the top to start living by the values that they continuously preach to everyone.

Essentials is, as the name suggests, essential. It's not just the only shop on campus - it's the only shop that people with back-to-back lectures can feasibly get to. What are they meant to do?
