It is absolutely ridiculous that yet again Medway is being forgotten, why? Because Canterbury apparently needs more resources. Essentials is our only shop, save it before this campus gets completely forgotten about.

Not having a campus shop at a campus with so many students is ludicrous, to say the least. Especially people who have packed schedules, without a shop, what are they supposed to do?

Ridiculous. The shop is only making loses due to poor management. 10,000 people plus rely on one shop, there is clearly a good target audience. Perhaps the union should consider reorganising it's management structure and in store strategies to ensure profits or break even sales, especially as the Union would be a not for profit organisation.

It is the only shop on campus. Greenwich students live on campus-and a good ten-fifteen minutes away from the next nearest shop in either direction. They wouldn't close Essentials on the Canterbury campus-it would be unimaginable, so why is it ok in Medway? Medway needs investment, the students there pay the same fees and deserve better than their campus to be treated as an afterthought.

I think this is a dreadful decision which will have a massive impact on campus life and the student experience at Medway. Essentials is the only shop on campus; other stores are a ten minute walk away, which is hardly convenient for 10,000 students who need to stock up on items, grab lunch etc. It's also the only place that does cash back on campus - if the cash machine is broken, there's no other alternative, unless you walk ten minutes to Dockside. I'm shocked (although not surprised) that despite Kent Union declaring Medway a "priority campaign" this year they can make these decision with no consultation, no thought about Medway students and what 10,000 students want and need. You can't have a campus without a shop. Ridiculous, and another example of Kent Union being entirely biased to Canterbury and forgetting about Medway.

As a former Medway student rep I have to speak out on this new low for Medway students. Students attending the Medway Campus already face worse facilities and resources than on the main campuses simply because they are on a smaller campus, regardless of the fact they pay the same fees! You would never see the bigger (and better stocked) sister Essentials shop on the Kent Canterbury campus closing. Yet because a smaller campus, with less students, makes a loss they want to close the Medway one?! It is WRONG. The three unions should work together to subsidise basic resources (at the very least!) like a student shop. It is basic logic that a smaller campus will require greater investment per head in order for it to have the same level of facilities. Unless the universities are willing to pull out of Medway altogether or slash student fees, it is absurd to think that something like Essentials should be closed on the basis that it isn't making a profit. Last time I checked Kent Union was a not-for-profit organisation, universities are for education and student fees were 9k.

Having no shop on campus will force students not wanting to spend money on hot food to go to Subway on Dockside or to Tesco's at Liberty Quays. Whilst Essentials may not be massively profitable (if at all), Kent students paying £9000 a year deserve at least basic facilities on their campus. A library, classrooms, shop and bar seems like the least that could be provided. Kent at Medway alumni

Where exactly are we to buy milk and supplies if the shop shuts? What facilities are there for students. We should be making the shop pay and making it more attractive to student snot taking it away.

How embarrassing is it to go to a University where you can't even buy a pen on campus?! It's a joke! I've used Essentials regularly whilst being at Uni in Medway, especially during dissertation period when there was no where else on campus to buy food. The Medway campus is going down hill.

With campus shops on every other Greenwich site, and comments made regarding the lack of facilities and services at the Medway Campus already, the removal of this shop will only diminish the student experience and ensure that staff spend more time away from their desks as they travel further to obtain the same goods. Shame on the Medway Campus for allowing this to happen. We need to heighten the student experience not make it more inconvenient to study at Medway.

Where's the justification for this decission and when were the staff and students consulted on this? You cannot tell me it is underused because never once have I not had to queue. Ok, so there are plenty of places to get a sandwich, but what about pills for a headache or when your pen or paper runs out? This campus is already fairly isolated. Please rethink this!
