I have lived on The Wells for forty nine years We were always led to believe that the land on which the Social Center stands belonged to the the Wells House and was left by the once owner of the Wells house to provide a Playground for all the local children and a facility for all the residents of The Wells -- for which we had The Hut run by residents until the council took it over in the nineties to provide better Facilities for all !!! How can they now turn round and say they need to sell the land ?

I strongly urge the Council to listen to the residents concerning the fabulous resource namely The Wells Centre, this would be so sad if the community were to loose these valuable facilities.

We cannot lose this invaluable community centre on the Wells. It serves the needs of all ages, and is always a happy and welcoming place to visit. The staff are friendly, caring and helpful, and the facilities with off street parking and a playground mean it is well used by people from all walks of life.

I lived on the estate for some years when my children were small. The social centre was the heart and for some, lifeline of the community. Some things are more important than monetary value.

The Wells centre is essential to the wellbeing of the residents of the west of the borough. Unfortunately the Council has deliberately kept it's existence low profile in order to run down usage and excuse closure. If they advertised the Retirement club and all the other activities available, not to mention advertising the rooms that can be hired, then I am sure that usage would double. To say that it is not needed as everything is duplicated at Longmead, is ingenuous. Can Longmead cope with all the current users who would be forced to move, or give up activities, so essential in old age? Where will the little children find another dedicated playground? Longmead?
I am sure that the matter is cut and dried; the caretaker has been sacked, therefore no more bookings can be taken. And this is before the supposed cut off date of April 1st.
Well done Council for running The Wells into the ground.

Increase prices and reduce staff rather than close down such a valuable centre. We could afford to look after communities before the last recession so why not now? The council should reduce the wages of the council bosses before it cuts services that have been in place for years.

The Wells Centre provides essential services to the elderly plus the invaluable companionship which can not be ignored. Will alternative providers be able to cope with the Wells Centre attendees or the classes held there? I know that Longmead can not accommodate the exercise class I attend. I feel very frustrated with the Council's decision especially as the elderly population is increasing year on year.

39 years the well Centre has been the only place some have to go to get to social interaction that they need in such hard times, you take it away and you destroy hundreds of community lives

the centre is what makes the community what it is, there is little enough for youngsters and young families to do locally. If the council can't be bothered, let the community run it for themselves.

This centre has been a vital community hub for many residents in this area and its closure will have a devastating effect , particularly on the elderly for whom it provides company and stimulation .

According to your own website this is a vibrate centre. Transferring services to Longmead ignores the many people on the Wells who are elderly or do not drive but have no effective public transport available.

The Wells Centre is a highly valued service. It is a public service and should not be subjected to profit/loss analysis. What is even more galling is the lying of political representatives in this decision. This is utterly shameful
