They actually decided to keep the handprints on the walls and honestly I am still kind of in shock because I thought for sure they were going to paint over them anyway. Thank you so much for backing this because my floor is currently covered in paint swatches and I …

Save the last 8 years of 5th grade handprints!

Updates

December 19, 2016

I was just looking at the wall today and realized how much paint is actually starting to flake off since they announced the renovation plans. It makes me feel a bit frantic honestly because those colors mean so much history to the kids who put them there and I keep trying to get the principal to see that but he keeps redirecting me to the facilities manager who barely answers my emails.

This meant the world to me when I was in 5th grade and it honestly breaks my heart to see them go. They allowed all of use to feel like we left our mark. I'm in the current graduating class of 2017 and the first grade to do these handprints. Allowing students to see where I was 7 years ago means the world to me.

It means so much to our children to be able to go back and find their handprints. There are seniors graduating this year that have their prints on the wall. I understand that the school needs a paint touch up, but please leave the hand prints alone!

I was very upset and heartbroken when I heard the handprints were leaving. My son's hands are on this wall and my daughter has looked forward to the time when she could add hers. These are priceless and personal. Please don't paint over our children's memories. :(

I have been to so many schools before I came to social circle in the fith grad. My handprints on that wall mess a great deal to me showing how SC has brought me up into the student I am today! Please let them stay!

Adoris Gibbs started this tradition that children love and look forward to doing. It is a legacy that Adoris left while she was she 5th grade president. This tradition has lasted 7 years and it would be terrible to see such a wonderful legacy simply painted over and not documented. Her idea was different and something no one else thought of its uniqueness defines SCHS and all its students.
