I have been visiting Door County every summer since I was 6 months old (so that's about 56 years!). Once I was old enough, we began making annual trips to Peninsula State Park to hike, enjoy a picnic, a swim, a gorgeous drive and ALWAYS to climb the tower. It was a family tradition for all of us to climb this tower together. Hundreds of family pictures were taken of us at the top of the tower enjoying the spectacular view it provides. As we spent most of these summers in the Ephraim area, we have almost as many pictures of the tower from the Ephraim Beach, the porch of the Old Post Office, Wilson's, Anderson Dock, etc. Eventually we were visiting with our children and we maintained the tradition of climbing the tower every summer. And we added more pictures to our family albums from the top of the tower. We are now residents in Ellison Bay and I always assumed my grandchildren would have the same wonderful Park experiences that I did growing up and they would be able to sit on Anderson Dock and see the tower silhouetted in one of Door County's indescribable sunsets. While it is just a simple wooden structure, it represents the rich history of this area, showcases its beauty and is the foundation for making priceless family memories. Peninsula State Park is a treasure in its simplicity, natural beauty and serenity. We need all of those things in this noisy, crazy, high tech world we live in and the Tower is an important piece of that treasure that draws people to the Park.

My home on the shore is in Ephraim on Petersen Point (1/2 mile north of Anderson Dock.) Consequently Eagle Tower is what I see from my picture window every day - directly across the bay. In the photo to the left and below the large white house on the bluff is my home on the shore. Indeed it MUST be saved for all future generations to enjoy as my ancestors through the years have enjoyed it!

My family has had a home and property in Door County since before my birth. Eagle Tower should be saved so that future generations can enjoy it's spectacular view. An elevator or lift would not be a bad decision if the rebuild budget allows.

The value of the tower to Door County tourism far exceeds the likely cost of refurbishing it.

The tower is so much a part of the Door County experience. It needs to be restored NOT torn down!
