As a Ph.D. in Egyptology, and a specialist in egyptian epigraphy and religious practice at Thebes in the New Kingdom, I am one of the many witnesses to the quality of the research led at Leiden by the Netherlands Institute for the Near East. I can only advocate for anything that would keep and support its actual standards in the near and far future. Research has a cost and constructive reform is always welcome. But it shouldn't be made at the expense of actual research, and mainly beacause of practical and basely economic reasons. Long Live Ledien NINO. May many future generation benefit from its facilities and production.

Keep the library as it is , the decision taken by the Curatorium kills the possibility of a higl level production in Egyptology and Assyriology.

There is no need to destroy a brillantly working institution. The plans unfortunately follow a world-wide tendency of regarding humanities with disdain. The NINO is one of the world's premier Egyptological institutions. Loss of its Independence would damage not only Egyptological scholarship but also the standing of Dutch scholarship worldwide.

In my view it is absolutely necessary to keep upright the NINO independent and unchanged in staff, library, budget and facilities!

The NINO is one of the world's premier Egyptological institutions. Loss of its Independence would damage not only Egyptological scholarship but also the standing of Dutch scholarship worldwide.
