The University plans for NINO are a disgrace to scholarship.

Bad experience of combining indpendently working unities within German Egyptology makes me warn against the plan in question.

NINO is not only a gemstone among the Dutch Scientific community, it is also a highly important research institute in the worldwide context. Transforming it as planned will strip it off of its capability to support and promote first-class research. In the interest of research partners far beyond the Netherlands, NINO should not be sacrificed to short-term financial concerns, but retained in the interest of the worldwide scientific community.

I want to express my concern about the proposed changes in the status and operation of the Netherlands Institute of Near Eastern Studies. This is one of the world's top institutions in the fields of Egyptology and Near Eastern Studies and fully deserves to maintain its independence.

Humanities need to be preserved in our day and age, when we are turning into an age of economic transactions and money only.
