It is illogical to destroy the heritage of the Isle of Man. Once the tramway from the Gaiety to the Sea Terminal is removed, the rst of the tramway will be at risk. The tramway is currently an excellent traffic calming measue which reduces the speed of traffic on that part of the prom that is not outside the Villa complex.

The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway is world famous, attracting many thousands of people such as myself to the Isle of Man every year from around the globe. The Horse Tramway will be of far greater value to the Island's tourist economy if left intact than if these short-sighted proposals are enacted. Once the tramway has been destroyed, it cannot be reinstated, even in part, without losing its appeal as a world heritage icon, and I believe that it would be a source of immense regret for decades to come if these proposals were to be enacted.

The proposals will result in a net negative effect on what Douglas (and by extension the Isle of Man as a whole) is, what it represents and what it offers. Even in busy times, the greatest problem along the whole of Douglas promenade is not the horse tramway or its operation - it's the over-dense parking of cars (especially towards the Sea Terminal), their double parking, prolonged waiting in the traffic lanes and their maneuvering to obtain what is often almost non-existent parking spaces. If anything, the trams calm impatient and over-exuberant drivers down and do not in themselves represent the most significant, or urgent, safety concerns. The loss of the horse tramway's function in the way intended will be something the Island and its politicians and residents, as well as visitors, will be able to regret and lament at leisure.

Please do not spoil this wonderful historic service. It fits and belongs on the Douglas promenade. Lose this and the Isle will never be the same.

To destroy a wonderful tourist and community service is plainly ludicrous.
Are you sure this is not about developer's lining their pockets rather than simply allegedly saving the council some money in the short term but costing millions in the long term.

Please do not remove the horse trams. I have been going tho the IOM since I was a baby and we have always made a point of going on the trams. Douglas would not be the same without them and it would be another historical loss to the island.

Crazy that the government still doesn't understand the worldwide uniqueness of our horse trams. Leave them as they are. It is a fallacy to pretend that removing the Horse Trams will have any impact on the traffic movement or the parking space on the prom because the tramway is shared road space, a horse tram is easily passed whereas the pronciple cause of disruption which is the pulling in and out of cars into the parking spaces will remain.

FFS don't rip up any tracks! Viability depends upon a usable link between the Sea Terminal and the Derby Castle Electric Tram terminus.
