Please sign this petition if you support our campaign to stop Don Valley Stadium from closing in Sheffield. It is the second largest athletics stadium in the UK and it would be such a shame for all ages alike if it was demolished. See below for more information about the group itself:

A group of Don Valley Stadium users are attempting to Stop the council's bid to demolish the venue ahead of the scheduled date in October 2013. The group are questioning the rationale behind the decision.

Lewis Samuel, a representative from the group explains their concerns: "We believe that Sheffield International Venues (SIV) and the council have not presented the people of Sheffield with a clear enough picture with regard to why there is no alternative to the closure and subsequent demolition of the stadium. They have stated via various media that the venue costs £700,000 a year to run, yet SIV have conceded to me that the true figure is closer to £500,000. The venue has lost money year on year, while the strategy for generating revenue within the stadium appears have had only minor revisions made to it during that time”.

The group are now seeking further information from the council and are planning to submit a proposal to save the stadium. Lewis added, "The council are apparently prepared to listen to alternative options to save the venue and we would like to be given the opportunity to put our proposal forward. Hopefully the council will agree to a stay of execution for the facility enabling us to produce a highly detailed and financially viable business plan for the stadium."

Total waste of money knocking it down. Refurbish it or find a better way to make it pay.

My kids have grown up using this track. It is part of the citys identity and letting it go to waste is just plain wrong.
