We, the undersigned, as citizens and taxpayers of Clinton, Iowa, are petitioning Mayor Maddasion and the Clinton City Council to vote NO on the sale of DeWitt Park for the proposed site of the Permanent Supportive Housing Project.

By signing this petition, I state that I am against a permanent supportive housing project being built in DeWitt Park as is being proposed by Clinton YWCA.

The City of Clinton should not be selling to private buyers public park land that is held in the public trust.

Further, the DeWitt Park location is undesirable because it is adjacent to a senior home facility whose residents are vulnerable; also the DeWitt Park location is next to a children's museum which hosts small children and families and which also serves as a visitor attraction in our community.

The silence from the city council is heavy but it only proves why we need to keep pushing for this land. I am exhausted by the lack of transparency in this process yet I cannot walk away while our public space remains under threat.

The path forward is exhausting but we need to reach five hundred signatures to prove our resolve to the council. Please take a moment to push this loop one step further toward that goal.

The path forward is long and honestly quite exhausting. We need a final surge to break through the hundred signature mark so we can show the council we are serious about keeping this park.

There are far more appropriate places to build that facility. Leave our green spaces alone. The seniors in that building enjoy going there just to get out of their apartments for a big. It's the only place they have. Most of them don't drive. Why do you always have to destroy and not preserve.

Save our parks. Use the land on Lincolnway east of the Casey's. That area has plenty of room for any size of supportive housing. It's on a main bus route and close to food, groceries, and Dollar General. You could even build them a park there....

This is not the location for this project. We need to protect our green spaces & mature trees. There are SEVERAL other locations in Clinton that could be used without destroying a park. Perhaps some of the abandoned buildings/houses could be demolished for this new building.

Parks shouldn't be for sale for private development. They are supposed to be used by residents for relaxation and exercise. Our city forefathers thought this was important by leaving us Eagle Point and the Riverfront. Try refurbishing the old YMCA.

I know we do have a need for this property to be built , but this is not the proper location for such a place. The old Lyons middle school or the LaFayette Apartments are both more suited for a project like this.

The YWCA and the city of Clinton need to rethink this build. If it fails in the next 34 years, does the Y and City have the funds to refund? 4.4 million is a lot of money and the odds are not good for this project to succeed!!

I hope there are enough people who will take the time to thoroughly read about this and sign the petition. I agree we should help the needy but not at the cost of making Clinton less safe to live in.

Why would you get rid of the only place the people in park towers have to enjoy????
