Music, whether it’s choir or band is an essential part of learning and has been proven to increase test scores and grades. Why would anyone take that away? The district needs to find a different way to make it work.

Class of 75. Derry proud. Still friends with band pals and choir friends. There is plenty of data that supports how music skills transcend into core clsssrooms via concentration, organization, multi-tasking and problem solving. Derry is proud to have academics, arts and athletics go hand in hand while maintaining the outstanding music reputation dating back to the Markle and Calvo eras. May these educational standards continue well into the future Psalm 95:2 - ...extol Him with music and song

As an alumni of the class of 2007, I was there when the department was full of many great teachers & the music department was the pride of the school. I went on to graduate with a bachelors in music because of the musical foundation I received from Derry. I hope Derry continues to invest in the arts & keep the legacy alive. Music matters.

The music dept is down to bare bones here in WV. And now with corporate charters breathing down our necks, what do our public schools have to offer? The case for public schools has always been made by the arts. There may never be a better time to promote music and put kids first.

I'm a proud Derry graduate class of '96. Music was my thing in high school - marching band, chorus, my French horn, both county chorus and county band, and so much more! Even though I ended up being a Spanish teacher, it was not an easy decision and I still participate in musical events when possible. All of this is because of the AWESOME music teachers from elementary school and up.

Please keep ALL of Derry's music programs. Show these hardworking students that their effort is appreciated. Kids need a variety of ways to express themselves, be it arts or music or sports or academics, or some combination. Derry has always supported music and has been known for that. Please don't change that! Thank you.

The music department not only teaches our children to learn, listen to and enjoy many forms of music. It is also a great resource for our community. Our whole area will be adversely effected if we lose this great asset.
