Makes a living making music in the band Astral Authority. The petitions creator is a fan. Would you really take the teaching of music away from young minds? It has saved mine and my band mates from hard times and given us a future. It's valuable, and I'd like to believe we are proof of this. Spencer, Astral Authority

Just a small observation I went to Derry i graduated from Derry in 2017 i played football and as much as i loved football and the togetherness that it brought being in choir and ensemble having the oppurtunity to work with phenomenal musicians and mentors can never ever be something that is taken away it's a shame to see that were getting to a place where its we allow quality to take a back seat to good education as well as other skills music helped me and continues to help me I know music serves as an outlet to many kids with depression and other mental and or physical disabilities to cut a program that has the potential to change lives is heart wrenching Derry we have to do better!

Rise above the temptation to cut back in an area where the exact opposite should be done!

As a band parent, I'm horrified by this!! What is wrong with people? Let's kick another activity out 9f school that kid's enjoy and turn them in the wrong direction. These kids go through enough these day's with the MAJOR drug epidemic we have!! Yes it may not be my forte but my son enjoys it. Maybe there needs to be some changes in board members!!!

This shouldn’t even be a consideration! Shameful!

It isn’t fair to make the other teachers pick up and try to teach their specialty to the kids when they are doing to work of two teachers instead of one. Quality goes down and the kids will be the ones that will be compromised just to save the district a few bucks. It shows that money is more important than the future of our students.

Music is a unique universal language that fosters more connections in the brain than any other subject. It is the most fulfilling of all the arts. In it's simplest form one can hear it without having to listen to it. In it's most complex form 100s of types of instruments as well as the human voice can reproduce an infinite combination of 12 notes. Even as far as Northwest Pa Derry's Music. Program is highly regarded. Always remember we are in this nurturing profession FOR THE STUDENTS which is our legacy to the future of humanity. Please fill the upcoming vacant music position with a full time highly qualified music teacher and stop shuffling staff from building to building. Any school district that truly has the best interest of the students in mind can always replace a position... but they can never replace a person. It's Just That Simple. Respectfully, A retiring Technology Education teacher from General McLane and a '79 Derry grad.

Both of my children are in band and love it! This is the only thing that my daughter is involved with and she is in love with band. She has very high anxiety but when she plays her flute it calms her and it is so amazing to see how much she loves it and this is her first year. This is my sons 3rd year playing Saxophone and he loves and enjoys everything about it. To take music away would take joy away from so many children who love it.

We have been impressed by number of students that are involved and the quality of the performances at the annual school plays at Derry School District. We are concerned about the impact on students and the community from reductions in the Music Department.

I’m not in band but I support my friends who are in it and I know they love it more than anything and would be mildly upset if it shrunk or got eliminated.

Music is a form of expression for people, of all ages. You use both halves of your brain to play an instrument. You get concussions from sports. Music is safer.

Coming from a multi sport athlete and active member in our school, it would be a huge loss to Derry to cut the music department. This program has meant so much to me and many others in this school, I used choir and ensemble as an outlet when sports was getting rough. I believe if we cut this program or even make slight cuts to this program it could be catastrophic to many people who use this as an outlet as well. It would even damage more than just the department it would make its way down to sports because watching other members of our school sing the National Anthem before games or meets is one of the biggest things that shows school pride and pride in our country. Don’t let this happen to such and amazing program please, you will regret this.

Keep the music program funded and alive, it’s extremely important to the morale of many of the students and members of the community.

The music department is important at helping to build self esteem and helped me find the talents I didn’t know I had.

First the Family and Consumer Sciences Department is cut down to one and now this coming from the district. Very disappointing; not every student is enhanced by core subjects.
