Music is a therapeutic outlet as well as a way to broaden a students learning. It would be a disheartening disservice to the students iof Derry Area if this program were dropped

Our students and teachers are not being heard. And, this is very concerning. The school district needs to find ways to keep the music department running and thriving. The arts has always been instrumental in my life as not just as a person, but as Derry Area graduate. And, it is not fair for the students, the staff, and the community to be robbed of the opportunity to learn, to create, and to embrace the arts. It is not only a creative outlet, but it is a passion as well as an expression.

Music is an important ingredient in the comprehensive education of children. Being a part of a chorus, band, standing as a soloist are all important character builders of our children. Do not deprive my future generation of this essential ingredient.

We need teachers to support the students who are involved in the arts! With my current position in reviewing college applications, it is critical to have the arts on a college application. It means so much more than having an athletic program. For being someone who is a coach for another schools marching band, I understand the struggle that all of our high school music programs have. It is disgraceful. Our music programs in this country give us the music to our tv shows and movies to being the soundtrack and memories of our lives. We must support the music programs in our schools! It is horrific to me that my own school district, where I learned so much from our music programs, is downsizing these programs!

Music is a way of communicating in a different way for us as humans. Taking that away from these kids would be a shame. You don’t understand the impact it has on their futures and how they look at the world. Sometimes it’s a way to escape what’s going on in school already. Some kids are In sports some are into art and some are in music. Do not take this away from them!!!!

This program was so importain to me in school and it kept a lot of us out of trouble. It's not just music but a life saver for some, and the only means we had to be creative. Derry needs its music program.

Derry’s incredibly talented music department helped to foster my love of music. Many lasting friendships were created through the music department. Please staff the department in a way that will keep the tradition alive for future generations.

As one on the few schools in the area that still have a music program, please don’t take that away. My parents love coming out to see the kids because Hempfield doesn’t have a program in the younger grades like Derry does
