Music is very important for education and also a great copping mechanism to allow children to express themselves. As you become older it can be used as a hobby to give you a mental and healthy break from stress to give you a well-balanced life.

Music heals the soul...what they teach is pure music...how is that to live on if it get cut from our children's lives...don't we get a say so? Music is therapy..let the kids have it!

This music department is just as important as any other department in the school district. It is so important to so many students. You are doing them a terrible disservice but making more cuts to an already struggling program. Why are cuts never made to the sports programs? Don’t get me wrong, I feel sports are important too and I thoroughly enjoy them, but they are no more important than art or music. How do you justify taking away from the arts & music minded students? You tell students to do what they love, get involved in school activities... then you turn around and cut them. Not every student is born to be an athlete. Fill the positions from retired teachers and continue to offer the art & music programs that the children deserve. It’s not right for you to say that they are less deserving of the programs they love than any other student. With all the grants and funding given to our district there had to be a way. You made it work before the teachers decided to retire so I can’t see how you can justify any cuts.

When my father passed away suddenly in the fall of my senior year, the MUSIC TEACHERS of Derry HS were the ones who kept me going, who kept checking in on me, and who made sure I actually graduated instead of dropping out. It wasn’t the Math teacher, the Spanish teacher, or the Football Coach. IT WAS THE MUSIC TEACHERS.
DO THE RIGHT THING- KEEP THE MUSIC PROGRAM INTACT!!

The music program is an important part of life in high school. It helped me get through sometimes. I hope that this candle in some peoples darkness doesn’t get blown out.

This has been happening to my knowledge ever since Mr. Julian retired and maybe even before then, and is something that NEEDS to stop like this petition suggests. We get shut out by the school's administration and that needs to change as well, despite what administration claims they do for us. They do far more for Athletics, and although it's equally important, we are important as well and deserve the same amount of attention.

Some of my best high school memories were made in band! With the way the world is today, the last thing Derry needs is another school program being taken away or downsized... What are these kids to do? Get in trouble out on the streets or join a sport? Not everyone is cut out for a sport.

Shame on you Derry administration for downsizing the music and arts programs!! I do believe Derry needs an overhaul on administrators and school board for many reasons, but this is a big one!!

My nephew, Jacob Shandor, is in marching band, band and stage crew. He is literally heartbroken that they want to downsize the music department. Not everyone at Derry is an athlete. There are students who love the performing arts. Don’t take what they love away from them. I highly enjoy going to there winter and spring concerts. As do half of Derry. Think of the children who have a place to fit in. Who either play an instrument or perform for the plays. This is what they’ll remember when they are older and tell stories of their school experience.

Please keep the Music Department, without chorus or band I wouldn’t have meet so many talented people. It would really be a shame to see this department shut down.

I’ve been in so many of the programs, between stage manager at musicals, marching band, and choir. This program has saved me. It needs saved.
