There is a public school board meeting May 9 @ 6:30 PM in the High School Audion. Please make this meeting a priority...the Administration is set on not replacing retired teachers. Let's stand in solidarity in support of our music and arts department. Our voices will be heard!

At my home school we only have one over worked music teacher for both the middle and high school. It’s unfair that music is the last thing people worry about.

I'm curious to know where the money will go? How was it redistributed when Mr. Julian left? Don't cutbacks also effect the potential for scholarships? How's does Derry remain a "school to watch" if they're taking from our students and the community? Disturbing on so many levels. How does 7th grade go to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, but then be told they can't have opportunities to create music?? As many have stated...football would never take cuts. Where does the decision lie? School board? How many of their children are affected?

Music is such an important part of our children's education and cutting it would be an injustice to them

My 3 children participated in Derry's music program their entire school career. Three of my grandchildren have graduated from Derry and participated in every music program available. It would be a shame if my 7 remaining grandchildren who all attend Derry schools did not have the same high quality music education.

I have never been so disappointed and upset by Derry Area School District. I was a member of every single music related program while enrolled which began in 4th grade. Chorus, Ensemble, Musicals, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Marching Band were all of what made up every incredible memory I have of school. It was a way of life for us artistic students. These programs have invaluable lessons including self-esteem, commitment, dedication, confidence, and much more. Learning how to be a part of something much bigger than yourself and feeling it in your very soul is something that shouldn't be denied to the students at this school. I always had hoped my future children would attend Derry because we always excelled in the arts. Please let us have a say in this and don't end these programs.

Music and arts need to stay in school curriculum. The more we take away music and art, the more issues the kids have in school. Music helps brain function. Music is a coping tool. Music helps people communicate. Music calms the spirit or ignites ideas. Many successful people in STEM careers have been musicians. It's as classic as math, literature, science, religion, etc. Without music, society and civilization suffers. Save the music!
