Sad to hear this. My son will be entering middle school next year and loves chorus and band. Please save the music

We have so many clubs and programs that very little people participate in that could be taken away, why not take one of those

Some of my fondest memories from high school involved the music department.

Music is the universal language... It has been heartbreaking to see the watering down of Derry's music program since my children have been enrolled in the district. The students of Derry deserve to experience the high quality music department that has been a staple for decades in our school district. I myself am a Derry graduate of 1983, and my best high school experiences were in choir, ensemble, band, and musicals. I urge the administration and school board members to rethink this game plan and find creative ways to use our resources to prevent the elimination of another music teacher. This is not acceptable. Please do the right thing, and don't let our music program take another big hit. Music programs now, more than ever, are vital to our schools.

I was not blessed wit musical talent, but am always impressed by children and adults who are. Music programs are an essential part of academics. If you want to cut unneeded programs, start in athletics. That is NOT why children go to school.

Learning music promotes creativity and a desire to do well ..in all areas. Music keeps students engaged and it is also a positive activity to be involved in.

Choir is what made me who I am today. It was the only class in high school that made me feel a part of something other than just a school. It's where I made friends and tried my hardest. Schools are already making it difficult to want to graduate, don't take away the only fun students have.

There have been many, many studies that prove that music increases overall learning and teamwork. If you cut the music program, then you should cut the Football program!

Music is the only thing in school that keeps me happy anymore. It is a fun relaxing period to do what we all enjoy. The thought of having to go to school everyday without choir hurts and I know and hurts everyone else as well. The school needs to fund their money to suport choir just as it does for sports.

I’ve been a drummer for the school for almost five years and I enjoy seeing the marching band at the football games. I would truly hate for the music department to leave Derry area.

I grew up in Derry. It makes me sad to even see the possibility of losing the music department. Many wonderful memories of all the great performances. Those I participated in as well as my daughter and many others. Praying this doesnt happen.

I was a member of Derry's musical department for one year, and that was enough to show me how essential the music program is to Derry students. We have so many talented individuals that pass through the halls of Derry, and we need a music department to develop that talent. I have enjoyed the musical all four years and it is quite a big event, drawing almost a full house every night. Just this alone shows how the music department doesn't just affect the students, but the outlying community of Derry Township.

Save music at Derry. It saves kids. Creates confident kids and life long friends.

The music and arts is a great way for kids to express themselves in amazing ways. It helps with creativity and can also help in math and other educational areas, buy reading music, keeping the beat, measurements etc. It would be terrible to see the music department disappear

Derry’s music program it the only thing that kept me out of trouble growing up. I loved every minute of it and had it not been there as big as it was, I’m pretty sure most kids would’ve found ways to get into trouble. I think the music teachers were about the only teachers that truly cared about the students. It would be such a shame to see it go.
