Hinsdale South is an amazing program. The directors' impact on students goes above and beyond time after time. The music department has not only developed future musicians but future leaders.

As a D86 resident, musician, music educator and president of a college that prepares music teachers, I would be deeply disappointed to see D86s music program slide down in quality. I am in complete support of every statement contained within this petition. Do the right thing and maintain the budget for the music program. It will take years to reverse the downward trend this cut will precipitate.

As a District 86 retiree, some of my best memories are of the concerts and musicals, to say nothing of how musical training carries over and enhances success in the other disciplines.

How many music students continue to play after high school? Many! I can hardly count how many people I know who played in college marching bands. A lot more than play college football.

Because of the strong music program at HTHSC and the band directors & sectional leaders who not only taught but inspired me, I was offered a music scholarship by every college to which I applied. It is not an exaggeration that my experience at Central would have been drastically minimized had it not been for the music program. The cuts proposed by this leadership are shameful.

Our son Andrew flourished in the music and drama departments, which formed the foundation of his college training and which has burnished his business skills. A premier school district does not diminish the arts.
