That parents across D86 fought so hard for this referendum and now to have cuts to arts programs is outrageous. If there are to be cuts, let's see all programs equally effected, including sports.

As a graduate of HCHS, I am heartbroken by this news. I graduated HCHS in 2012 and went on to pursue a degree in music on a scholarship because of the guidance and training I was given by Mrs. Burkemper and the entire HCHS music department. I credited HCHS music and drama for much of my successes in the Entertainment Industry.
Additionally, music in schools is linked to higher test scores, which I am sure is something the BOE can not overlook. The National Associate for Music Educators sites, "on the 2012 SAT, students who participated in music scored an average of 31 points above average in reading, 23 points above average in math, and 31 points above average in writing.

Please save the music and arts programs in our school district. Music education is as important as physical education/sports for a child’s development.

AP Music Theory is a normal class in area high schools. It is not appropriate to cut academics and retain clubs. Accompaniment is to the music program as labs are to the science program, or a field is to football. It should not be considered extravagant or unnecessary.

The HSHS Music program has played a very important role in our son's life for the past 3 years. His love of music comes from the dedication and professionalism of his Choir director, teachers, paraprofessionals, and accompanist. Please reconsider the budget cuts and save the music program!

Music IS my kid's sport. She could not do what she does and will do without a professional accompanist. Also, AP Music Theory is critical for many kid's to compete. These things are not less important than sports!

This is horrible, as an alum who still lives in district and was in band I'm appalled that they still have to make cuts after receiving over 100 million dollars.

Very disheartening to hear this. I, as many others, voted yes to the referendum to keep the quality/opportunities in our schools. Not every student is an athletic, sports type. It seems very unfair to the band/music department.

Music groups play a vital role in teenagers' social/emotional development. The Music Department enriches lives and education of hundreds of D86 students every year. It deserves our support NOT the budget cuts!

Although I no longer have children at HSHS. The concerts & plays were some of the highlights of the 12 years my daughters attended high school. Please keep these programs fully funded an intact.
