My son went to the kellands school because he has severe dyslexia and I don't think he would have managed to get on in life if he did not have the help that the unit gave him. The class room assistance was not enough help for him it rediclas to think that a child with learning difficulties can cope with a class room assistance help when there could be 4-5 kids needing help

I have seen how much benefit can be had in a short space of time from a child being educated at the dyslexic unit at Kellands. With the best will in the world, this cannot be achieved in a mainstream classroom. Teachers are under enough strain as it is and children with dyslexia should not be made to feel that they are an inconvenience or an added layer of stress. These are bright, intelligent children who require specialist, full time teaching in an environment that is inclusive and equipped to deal with their needs in order to give them the start in education they deserve.

It's a disgrace that they should even be thinking of closing this down. Young people today have it hard without making it harder for them by not giving them the best possible start in live that we have to offer. These units are vital to the area. They help so many children.

Specialist units give more individual attention to children and their needs. A class teacher although will try their best also has a whole class of varying abilities to see to. This equals stress on the teachers as they will feel that they are not getting it right for every child. Child will not feel as supported and valued. Seems like a cost cutting exercise at the detriment of the children.

Valuable units, my son came on so well educationally, socially and boosted his confidence. He gained so much from Crimond unit and used the resources he learnt throughout his time at the academy and now during his apprentiship. We are truely devasted for those children who will not have the same opportunity. Please sign the legion for the future of other children.

I was at Crimond dyslexia unit in 1992/93 it helped me so much.My life would be so different had it not been available. I could barley read write or count and my confidence was very low. My spelling was not understandable and messy. Just 1 year of intense specialised 1 to 1 help in a small group of 6 with teachers Mrs Steven and Mrs Forsyth I could manage confidently.I know I could have only done so well having been to the dyslexia unit at Crimond. special help in class did not help me before I went to Crimond. As good as it was it just did not help. Like the intense help I received. I cant understand why stop a unit that work's so well.There wont be enough specialised teachers like Mrs Steven for all schools! Does Aberdeenshire council really under stand DYSLEXIA and how to help! I DON'T THINK THE COUNCIL DOES
