This is a sensitively-designed estate with a united community. It should be preserved, with repair if necessary, as an example of what councils can do — not flattened as an example of what councils are all-too-often doing!

It is the job of Lambeth council to provide safe, affordable and well designed housing to the residents of its borough. In Cressingham Gardens the council has this. The idea that they would demolish it and replace it with a block of flats which will no doubt end up in the hands of private companies making them far too expensive for the average resident of Lambeth is outrageous. Not only will it destroy a community who are quite clearly united, but it will also blight the landscape and do nothing to solve London's need for affordable social housing. It is the job of Lambeth council to serve the constituents that elect it not, to pursue projects for their own capital gain and vanity.

Cressingham Gardens is a great place that needs to remain exactly what it was built for: somewhere for ordinary people to live a decent life.

This is just the sort of urban environment that works - but such communities are delicately balanced and are mucked about with at our peril.

My daughter and I regularly cut through the estate with its flower beds and lovely sense of community to get to our favourite park. I have no words to explain to her why it will disappear other than social cleansing. This needs to stop.

I lived on Cressingham Gardens Estate for 22 years.
My children played outside, and in the summer ran to the paddling pool in Brockwell park in their swim suits & a towel.
I Iived on Bodley Manor Way, which is an Avenue of four-bed houses faced next to a row of one-bed flats.
The mix of elderly tenants & families was brilliant.
We all knew each other, and that feeling was spread around the estates.
I miss living there.

It's absurd to bulldoze this imaginatively ergonomically-designed low-rise 1970s estate by architect Ted Hollamby
