we have just lost our allotment at eastbrook due to council redevelopment plans and sale of the land for commercial purposes - we must fight this constant attrition of allotment sites

The priority for new homes should be brownfield land and under-used commercial sites such as Freshfield Indusrial Estate (rebuild with residential units above commercial) not greenfield infill. Land within Brighton & hove has many unrecorded benefits, such as the benefits to wildlife from low use of insecticidesand refuge for birds. Buildibng on this land simple exacerbates the current great extinction

Allotments should be retained in their existing location. Councils and Government have a habit of trying to move existing allotments to another area, but then the new area is destroyed because the old allotments are being moved there! It's a strategy of pushing and pulling, or whoever weakens first. The chipping away of areas of land around villages for house building is unsustainable. Large housing estates are not needed in the South East of the country. We should be retaining land (and particularly farms) for agricultural use to feed the population. Sir David Attenborough is correct when he says that population growth is the biggest threat to mankind. All these subjects are linked.
We need allotments.A place of peace in a stressful world.Community,friendship and great food.

There are simply no substitutes available that will replace 100 years of continuous cultivation as has been conducted on this site. It is also unthinkable that the council should even consider a steeply sloping site as suitable especially when it is an existing communal woodland of some significant importance to a wider community beyond those who use allotments.It is also totally destructive of peoples communities to uproot them and move them as would happen to the allotment community. Many may be unable to reach the new proposed site and many more may be unable to negotiate the steeply sloping site. Little consideration has been given to the social aspects of this assessment process. Let us be brutally honest here. The consultants don't give a monkey who they hurt as long as they make their money developing everything in sight. They simply do not care.The council should know better and should not destroy these allotments simply to comply with some government policy on housing requirements. They are even more corrupt than the consultants.

I need an allotment but the Government allotment scheme will only let you choose one site per application, whereas i personally would like anywhere within a mile of my house and im sure there are more like me out there. That said the statistics of only 47 people on the waiting list is highly innacurate!!
