Schools (especially High Schools) have been and always will be the heartbeat of a community. As an alumni of Independence High School, I remember graduating with classmates who went on to become lawyers, politicians, educators, and very sucessful business owners. Interestinly enough, we all were products of an inner city/ public school system that often times is viewed or talked about in negative ways. More importantly, all of the alumni I know, (if not most) have went on to be productive citizens despite the negative assumptions that are often associated with "inner city public schools". What I have in common with all of the productive alumni who have graduated from Independence High School is a sense of pride and an attitude to succeed that was the expectation at Independence High School when I attended. Please consider wasys to re- establish Independence High as viable educational option for Columbus city families.

I hope the Board of Education takes a good, long hard look at Independence High School before making any final decisions. T

As a teacher at Liberty Elementary, which sits directly behind Independence, I have had the privilege of watching my former students grow into successful young adults and graduate from Independence. I have even been given the privilege of handing several of them their diplomas. The students at Independence are tutors, mentors, and interns for the kids at Liberty. Losing this partnership will impact the future of our elementary age students.

this is a local neighborhood school that is part of the community. The kids need a school to call their own such as I did.

Removing this great school is the same as killing your Mother! This school educated, nurtured, celebrated and provided a second home for many young people. History reigns traditions and it fostered the BEST educators available in the State.

I am a graduate of 1980. This school has a lot of rich history and is the bicentennial school of Columbus. Closing such a historic piece of history is all about politics and not what is right. Do what is right. Busing the area children to other school will cost more in money than leaving the school open and providing quality education
