I urge you to save Columbus Day. As the late Senator Prescott Bush said, “All Americans pay tribute to Christopher Columbus. His vision of yesterday parallels the vision of contemporary man in his efforts to discover. His courage parallels the courage of those who will soon embark on voyages into the sea of the unknown heavens.” No one can learn from history if history is erased or falsified.

OCT 12, 1492 is the day Columbus first set foot in the New World. What does any other group have to celebrate on that day? After a long time fighting to keep Columbus Statues, I've come to realize this movement is only about tearing down America and it's impressive history in any way possible. It must stop and lets stop it here.

I cannot understand why You are so insistent to eliminate Columbus day .Cristoforo Colombo came to explore the New World with 3 caravels given by the Spanish queen equipped with killers ,rapist thieves, promising them freedom if they were coming back alive. What do you expect from a bunch of outlaws and a lot of people are accusing Columbus for what the crew did. Read the history before you condemn an innocent person. This is pure discrimination against the Italians that build and still work toward the well being of this great nation. We don't discriminate anybody , we don't destroy properties, knock down statues and abolish history: years ago when in Iraq destroyed statues we called them Barbarians , we don't tell other ethnics groups to eliminate their holidays and impose them to replace them with ours .This is pure and simple DISCRIMINATION . Somebody wants the "Indigenous Peoples Day" they can have it there are 365 days and 6 hours in a year they can choose any one and we don't discriminate them .I and all the Italian community hope that the CT Board of Education will consider this decision . When they teach and a student ask who discovered America what they are going to say The Indigene.

I'm not convinced that Columbus was such an evil and immoral person as the cancel culture is trying to portray him. In fact his own writings say otherwise. Furthermore, if we keep up this mindset, there won't be any history to teach that passes the "purity" test. The Egyptians used Hebrew slaves to build the pyramids and their country's infrastructure. Should we therefore not teach Egyptian culture? Or how about the Romans? When does it stop. Lastly, what are we planning on replacing Columbus Day with? Michaelangelo Day, DaVinci Day?

This revisionist history with regard to the ‘Admiral of the Sea’ must stop. He’s a hero to all Italian Americans. He did not bring death and distraction. Truth be told, it was the British, Spanish and Dutch that did so. Let’s not rewrite history.

What you propose is outrageous and demeans the accomplishments of a heroic, brave and intelligent history maker. Go to the library and look up the facts, not the propaganda on the internet. There is room on the calendar to celebrate both holidays.
