Columbus Day was established as a holiday to honor Italian immigrants who made America their new home and endured racial bigot and discrimination. We are recognized as an ethnic group and this holiday celebrates our achievements in America and out heritage.

Drop the Hate and Seek the Truth. Please get your facts straight and go to www.columbusheritagecoalition.org Italian Americans are a Cognizable Racial Group and I am against defaming one cultural group in favor of another. Please reconsider your action to eliminate the Columbus Day holiday.

I do not support replacing Columbus Day with any other important "day." If the "Indigenous Peoples' Day" is extremely important to you then establish that day on another day. Rewriting history is playing into the hands of those bad elements of our society who are intent on dividing us in order to destroy us.

We could also beat them to the punch and it from Columbus Day to Amerigo Vespucci Day and still celebrate Columbus and keep the day as an Italian holiday.

As A Professor Emeritus Of Queens College and Founder of the Italian American Museum in New York I ask that you reconsider changing Columbus Day to Indigeous Peoples Day by all means Native Americans should be recognized for their struggles and contributions but not at the expense of another ethnic/racial group. THAT WOULD BE DISCRIMINATION and would pit one group against another. Each group should have the right to name their name their own hero that is a basic tenant of "Constructive Pluralism". What you are about to do would even with all good intentions would be the opposite.

The Norwich public school system is indulging in another politically correct move to eliminate Columbus Day as a holiday. This is nothing more than a shameless and senseless move by people who do not know nor wish to know the whole story about the Genoese explorer.

Political correctness has blamed Columbus for every ill of the new world. This is not supported by the facts. Also, while many native American tribes were peaceful, family people, many others were savage, brutal, slave owners. I do not think there legacy should be celebrated.

Taking away a holiday for Italian Americans to celebrate their culture is not a way to promote unity.
