I’m sure we can find ways to celebrate the indigenous without degrading the Italians. It is a shame to try and score “political points” at the Italian Americans expense.
Italian Americans will not be scape goats.

The greatest thing about being a human is the ability to adapt, the simple concept that something is not considered NEW like the new world because it's ::NEW to you:: when in fact it was inhabited by millions shouldn't be celebrated as a supremacist imperial ideal.
the opposition of this petition is not the minority but the majority. We have had many years with Columbus Day on the calendar and the lies spewed in the textbook.
Columbus did not find America, and the transatlantic route was the route used for slave trade and should not be celebrated. Adapt and find something else within your culture to highlight that will make you proud.

Adapt and find something else within your culture you can highlight that will make you proud.
Columbus Day is not it. You can't stamp something as new, when it was inhabited by millions and the transatlantic route was the route used in slave trade both should not be highlighted.
15 years ago our indoctrination consist of info passed down by our families and within textbooks. The facts are that Columbus did not discover what was already inhabited, we had many years of accepting a lie and supremacist idealism- the one thing you are right about is enough is enough! Leave Columbus Day as is: Cancelled*.
If you guys put your brains together accept the truth and find something else within the Italian culture to highlight and be proud of THAT is a GREAT STEP for the future. Be honest and move forward.

Columbus Day celebrates a great explorer who united two hemispheres and led to the founding of this great nation, the United States of America. He is also a symbol of the integration of Italian-Americans after the brutal lynching of 1891.

Please read books by Dr. Carol Delaney and Raefal Ortiz before you vote. Columbus's heroic voyage changed the world. We celebrate the beginning of the New World. Don't listen to the lies and mischaracterizations made by a minority of individuals.

You cannot ERASE history by tearing down statues or changing names. People were NOT offended 15 years ago. People need to grow a backbone. Not all Italians are bad people. They need to be celebrated just like they have been for hundreds of years. This crap has got to stop!!!! People NEED to learn to get along!!!
JUST STOP ALL THIS FOOLISHNESS!!!

There are more important things the school board could be doing other than feeding into all the Division ......like making Norwich schools something to be proud of. Just look on any realty site and see what our schools are rated. It's disgusting .....considering the Mill Rate
We need to honor our past history.
