I played Colby Rugby all four years that I was in school, and would be very upset to see the program shut down. It was one of the most important experiences of my time at Colby.

I played rugby for three years at Colby and some of my best times were on and off the field with fellow riggers. Hugely disappointed in the administration.

Rugby is one of the few sports that teaches true teamwork, sportsmanship, and promotes an atmosphere of camraderie not just amongst a team itself, but between rival teams as well. It is actually safer than football (really-there is plenty of research studies supporting that fact). I have not had the priviledge of playing on or against the Colby College rugby team (either of them), but for someone to want to put an end to a 30 year legacy of a sport that has only recently begun to flourish in the US (despite it's huge popularity world-wide) is, in my opinion, irresponsible and short-sighted. Rugby is not just a sport- it is a culture that I have been proud to be a part of for the past 7 years, and I couldn't dream of denying such a priviledge to anyone.

Although I only played rugby for one year, it was very influential on my transition into Colby College, and competitive sports in general. I moved on to the Woodsmen's team, but a number of friends of mine continued to play rugby, and it turned out to be an incredibly powerful experience for them during their college career. You are stripping your students of an opportunity that does more good than a number of Colby varsity sports. You are getting rid of a sport that is more competitive than some of the most expensive of these varsity sports, and I dont know why, nobody really does, please reconsider.
