Some of my fondest memories and best friends from Colby College were from the Rugby team, and even afterwards my time with the team continues to pay dividends in the business world as an instant connection. My experience with Colby Rugby has been an invaluable experience and one we need to keep alive at the school.

As the coach of the Boston 13s rugby league club I believe that it would be a great shame if the men's and women's rugby programs at Colby were to end. They have been a credit to the school and very competitive on the field. Since our club's inception in 2009 Colby have provided many players for our roster over the summer months including flying winger Ben Browne who scored the opening two tries of the 2012 USA Rugby League National Championship Final against the Jacksonville Axemen.

The rugby teams need to be supported by Colby. There needs to be a competitive club option for students. Colby administration you baby the students looking after their health with things like the smoking ban "for our health" and now canceling a contact sport for the same reasons. Just say its because you want to save money. But more than my beef with the schools decisions, having this team is huge component for making a students college experience a full life experience having the friends and comraderie that can only come from a sports team. Save rugby!
