I started playing rugby at Bate my senior year of college. Honestly, it changed my life. It was accessible and the team was like a family. I know this to be true of many rugby teams, and I now play for Portland Women's Rugby Football club. Please seriously consider continuing the program.

I attended U Maine '88. Our good spirited rivalry with Colby was a big part of the experience. Rugby is a sport that requires incredible dedication, hard work, and team work. There are no superstars. It is far safer than American football. If you want safety, cancel football and promote rugby.

This is a huge mistake. The epitome of being "penny wise and pound foolish." I hope COlby will pay attention to the outcry and change their decision.

Rugby is without a doubt one of the best sports for america's youth. It fosters sportsmanship, camaraderie, leadership, and teamwork, unlike any other sport I have played. To take it away from Colby's sports program would be a disservice to the entire university.

Having gotten my start in Rugby at a small liberal arts college not unlike Colby, I can attest to the incredible value this sport has to current campus life as well as building a vibrant and supportive alumni community. As to it's safety, while Rugby has a well-deserved reputation as a character building activity, it is also remarkable that unique among contact sports, Rugby continues to draw many of us to play 10, 20, and 30 after our college years and we are better for it.

Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in America and college rugby is deservedly shedding its image as a "social" sport. There are few sports that teach so much and provide so broad a perspective. Rugby is the ultimate diversity sport. I hope the Colby administration learns more about the sport, gets more involved in its success and learns it's benefits. Neither that, in time. I am sure Colby rugby will be on the cover of the college's alumni mag, as it has been recently at Colgate and Dartmouth, as a reflection of what is best about the school .
