Rugby was more than a sport/ club. It was a family, a continuous growing family at that. All brothers looked out for one another. Deleting such a program is heartbreaking and I know any rugger would agree.

I don't go to Colby, but I play rugby at Hamilton and know how much of an impact it has had on my life, and for that reason I want Colby to save its own team.

Bate Alumni hoping for the continuation of a great rivalry. Although I despise all that Colby stands for I would hate to see the chance for Bates Ruby to annihilate Colby in 2014 and all years to follow. Bates 98 for Saving Colby Rugby!! (maybe stop buying the coaches those stupid blue wind suits and that would save you about $400 a season).

As a Bates alumni, it would be very upset if this followed through. Rugby has had a deep and beneficial influence in many aspects in my life, including character that has led to my career success. I would like to urge the school in any way I can to not make this decision to eliminate one of the best rivalry games I played in any sport.

Some of my fondest college memories are of facing the White Mules on the pitch for four years. Using our growing knowledge of the problems associated with concussions as an excuse to axe the rugby team while continuing to fund other contact sports is hypocritical in the extreme.

As a 4 year member of the Bowdoin College Women’s Rugby team I played against Colby close to 10 times between pre-season scrimmages, fall conference play and the spring Maine rugby tournament. The Bowdoin-Colby rivalry was always the most important and intense match of the season and I know that all Bowdoin rugby players/alums will do everything possible to help save Colby rugby.

There is little evidence to support a claim that properly trained and coached rugby athletes are more frequently severely concussed or injured compared to other sports, such as football, soccer, gymnastics/competitive cheerleading, hockey, baseball, and lacrosse.

I began playing rugby at Colby my freshman year and rugby was the reason I did my transfer colleges sooner. The team taught me about leadership, community, relationships, and dedication. Most of my best friends at Colby were made on the pitch. I am one of the people who can attest to the seriousness of contact sports, and yet would not trade my time playing Colby rugby for anything. The team did a terrific job taking care of its players, putting our health above all else. In fact the team and my
