It's a shame to take the opportunity of rugby away from any college student. It made my college experience what it was and I've been giving back to it at my alma mater and beyond ever since.

Rugby is a fast growing sport in the US according to studies completed by Penn State U and Harvard School of Public Health it is less injurious than american football, lacross and field hockey. It is also much cheaper and is designed to stay that way. this headline sport ought be embraced, not excluded from colby's curricula.

I can’t find any epidemiologic evidence indicating rugby presents a higher/lower risk of injury in US college athletes, except a 2003 paper in “Brain Injury” by Koh, Cassidy, and Watkinson that shows ice hockey has more than double the rate of concussions as rugby. What population-based data is Colby using to make this sport-specific safety claim?

This action does not reflect growing awareness, rather misinformation. As a former football player and current rugby player I can attest that I experienced more head trauma playing football, despite helmets (which actually facilitate dangerous play). Do they plan to cut Colby football too? This decision needs serious re-evaluation and sets a poor precedent among colleges.
