Colby can, and should, work with the Rugby Teams to find a mutually agreeable solution. A unilateral decision to dissolve a program loved by so many is a very disappointing statement about the respect the admin has for the students and coaches. Not at all in keeping with the spirit of Colby.

Rugby is a contact sport but not a high collision sport. Players are taught how to and recieve a tackle, as a coach thye first thing I teach players is how to make a low tackle and how to fall and protect not only the ball but also how to be able to land correctly so that they would be the first ones up. secondly the cost of Rugby is far less than say Football or hockey pads and helmets. You do not need these in Rugby as there are no blocks or head shots. I have played rugby all my life and have made so many friends from all over the world, do not deprive your young children from playing this great sport. they will benifit from physical health and fitness to leadership and team support.

As an athlete all through high school, rugby was an awesome option for me coming to college. Yes, it is physically demanding, but I truly believe that this sport fosters unbelievable teamwork and self-growth, and at the college level, provides dedicated athletes and scholars with a club sport option that meets their needs and keeps them growing and learning as athletes throughout their college careers.

I broke my leg playing touch football in the snow one year. Another year I needed stitches in my head from a sledding mishap. What is the school going to do next? - ban winter? Broken bones heal, but the fond memories and bonds go on forever. As Carlos Santanna sang,
