This appears to be a shortsighted approach to what the Colby administration sees as a problem. At the least, the budget for the rugby program should be presented along with the data that supports the college's decision, including comparative statistics regarding injuries from other high collision impact sports. Then an open dialogue can take place. The Colby Rugby program provided my daughter with an opportunity to play a sport and make lifelong friends in a way that few other sports provide.

Peter - I was one of those guys - played all year in UCC from 94 to 95. Loved my time there and I'll never ever ever get rid of my skull and crossbones jersey.

Please consider keeping both the men and women's Rugby teams....as a parent I found the games to be exciting and spirit filled and parents bonded with each other and the students and these relationships have endured beyond graduation...also for the students who spend long and lonely hours in the library or lab...it provides a physical outlet and a much needed social group!!!!...Please reconsider

If you can give alstars like Nick, Merle and Todd the best college sports experience they could ever hope for, how can you even think about ditching rugby?

Rugby is a great sport that builds character and friendships that last forever. It is also not as dangerous as Football and that's a fact. Please do not get rid of the Colby Rugby Program. Instead promote it more

I am not a former player, friend or fan of Colby rugby. The only reason being I just never happened to run into Colby's rugby program. But I am a full supporter of rugby and I believe that everyone should have the right to play. Even though rugby is growing and starting younger, the majority starts with college rugby. To take away the chance to learn a magnificent sport and a place where so much of it is based around comradery would be a shame. Best of luck and hope the school does not choose to take away such an important program.

I am amazed by the lack of respect rugby receives in America. To say it is more dangerous than football or soccer is absurd. Rugby truly changed my college experience and I have no doubt I may not have finished without it. The bond of a team is one you can't find anywhere else, and to take that away from anyone is shameful. Please research this decision further and you will realize the injury rates do not validate your claim.

Rugby has inherent and obvious risks. We, as players, are entirely aware of these but continue to play because we love the game, just as football players play a high-intensity game out love. I am not affiliated with Colby College in any way, but rugby is such a small world as it is, it hurts to see any club go down against players/participants will.

Rugby, when compared with football has far lower instances of traumatic brain injury than rugby. To cite this as a supporting argument to end your rugby program, which is safer and more inclusive is reprehensible.
