I am the head coach of the Women's Rugby Club at Keene State College. I also played at KSC from 1991 to 1996. Rugby is more then a sport, it is a network of friends and business contacts and a wonderful way for students to learn about administration, human resource management, and logistics in a real life setting. Not to mention the benefits, inherent in any sport, of teamwork, comraderie, and physical fitness. People often ask me why I like rugby so much, and my answer is always that in rugby there is something for everyone, you don't have to be the fastest, or the best tackler, or the best ball handler, in rugby there is a position for everyone no matter your level of athletic prowess, and there is always an opportunity for growth and learning because we don't cut anyone from the team. THere was a time when rugby clubs all but supported themselves financially, so if the students are willing I am sure they will find a way as long as the school lets them give it a shot.

Colby Rugby has been a leader amongst colleges for many years exemplifying what is considered the highest class of play and personal expectation. One would have to ask, " with each student who plays rugby paying a student activity fee, should not the students be the beneficiaries of their own funds ?" What about the students NOT in varsity athletics? Some serious questions. I strongly support Colby Rugby.

Rugby is an awesome sport that promotes teamwork and brotherhood/sisterhood. School administrators don't know what they're talking about.

Rugby is one of the best sports, and I bet the admins don't realize that part of the game is learning how to be safe while playing... Rugby as a sport has drastically fewer major injuries than a sport like football, and what injuries we ruggers do sustain are typically bruises.

Rugby is not a collision sport like football, but it is a contact sport, which if contact is properly coached, rugby injuries are limited to bumps and bruises. I would be willing to bet that soccer has more concussion from contact and heading the ball than rugby.

each year Maine produces national-level competitive rugby athletes and Colby's program is a big part of that. Rugby is sport unlike any other; the Colby players will not simply pick up another sport instead

With proper coaching, rugby can be safer than football. While injury is inherent in contact sports, teaching and practicing correct technique in the tackle will certainly protect the players from serious injury.
