This sport has been an important part of many Colby students college experience. What kept it going for many years without the formal support was the love of the game. It should not be eliminated lightly.

I played for NEC in the 80's, had a match or two at Colby!! It is a proven fact that minus the "Body Armor" of football there is less chance of injury!!

In my opinion, this is a very short sighted financial decision. There are far more injuries in football despite all the high tech and very expensive equipment. Colby should look at the rosters of teams past to see the type of student-athlete that plays rugby and what success they have in the post-Colby world. Exhibit #1; Bro Adams. Playing an intense sport such as this leads to deep, long-lasting friendships, which create a positve memory of college, which leads to generous financial support of their alma mater. Colby needs to reconsider this poor decision.

Colby: Don’t cut Rugby. Re-evaluate ways to keep this opportunity possible for present and future students. Keeping rugby will be better for Colby than any money “saved” by dropping the sport. I played baseball at Colby 30 years ago. That helped us learn how to work hard, how to balance our lives, how to handle failure and success. I’m so grateful for that opportunity. I’m sure many actors, artists and woodsmen feel the same way about their time at Colby. Work with those who care deeply about Rugby to keep the team going. The effort will be worth it for the students and for the College.

A rugby program needs financial support, this is true. But a Rugby Club is so much more than that. It is a Brotherhood/Sisterhood that supports everyone involved. It is a community; an opportunity. Ending the program puts a halt to the aspirations and ambitions of young men and women who put forth their best efforts to bring recognition and distinction to the Club, University, Town, etc.. they call home. You will seldom find names on the backs of their jerseys because Rugby players play for each other, and the communites represented in the emblems on the front of that jerseys. Give them the chance to do so.

I would not be the person I am today if it weren't for rugby. It is more than just a sport, it is a strong bond between brothers and sisters who share the field together. There is not a more welcoming sport than rugby and to take away an opportunity for men and women to not experience this great game is just not right. Rugby forms bonds among people that will last a lifetime, there are so many amazing people from all walks of life that I have networked with through rugby and continue to keep in touch with many of them who shared the field with me and against me. This is more than just a game to us, it's a way of life that stays with us long after our playing days are over. Please do not end this program, you won't regret it.

Without rugby I would have ... Never met my wife ... Never stayed in New England ... Never met my best friends .... Never realized my full potential. Rugby isn't a necessity for most ppl, but for those who live it, they honestly can't be them without it. Keep rugby!!!
