Their has to be a "real reason" that the administration panicking and making these threats. Rugby is very low cost and everyone know it. And as for health... Do they really expect us to believe that they allowed students to be at risk all those years? Something else is afoot, much as there was a Delaware. Alumni and parents need to attend a few meeting as get to the bottom of this. And if it is for financial reasons, get your kid out of ths school as the education going forward will be worth very little.

As a major researcher and clinican in sports concussions I do not supoport elimination of contact sports. Make them safer, yes, elimination - no.

From the university of Mary Washington as captain I express my concern that a program is shut down because it is high contact. Rugby is the sole sport on this planet that has everything a sport needs for all shapes and sizes. If it were me programs like football and basketball would be shut down over rugby.

The long-term benefits of continuing the rugby program clearly outweigh the short-term costs.

You don't need an emt at every practice, you just need a certified coach, and stop comparing rugby finances to other clubs when it's obviously comparable to a varsity sport

Ending a program like this does more harm than good. I know that first hand and can vouch for rugby programs.

I dealt with a similarly unsupportive administration in college. This sport still does not receive the respect it deserves and all ruggers need to work together to ensure that one day it does get the respect it has already earned.

I would like to ask the Colby Administration how they came up with their numbers required to run the program? I may be off a bit, but after 30 years of rugby, I recall that the team needs a field, possible help with Union dues, jerseys and referee fees. Some of this should be deferred by the players themselves leaving the expenses to the university of at most $25,000.

I'm not a Colby alum or even a Colby student, what I am is a player and a coach to youth in my area and as someone who has played since they were 14 I can attest to the fact that rugby has assisted in molding me into who I am today. If you take away rugby you're not only taking away a sport, but you're taking away a way of life and removoing a group of people that quickly become family to one another.

Rugby is an amazing and growing sport. To take that away from students is just wrong. Rugby is a sport where no matter what level you are at, no one judges you or tells you that you aren't good enough to play. Rugby helps in so many ways. Keep this program going.
