If Colby continues to support sports like football they have no reason to get rid of rugby...which is filled with great kids.

The benefits of the rugby far outweigh the concerns related to the perceived safety risks. Rugby is about building community, it is about building life long relationships. Which other sport on this planet has players running out onto the field deep into their 60's ? I could not imagine a life without rugby. Playing rugby for 32 years, and still alive and well !!

Rugby is an Olympic sport now. That alone should be reason enough to keep it. If a Colby player ended up on the Olympic team or even selected to attend a development camp, what a feather in the college's cap that would be. The only financial consideration I can think of is insurance but I work in insurance and as far as I've seen ice hockey gets the same rates as rugby..

The decision by the Colby College adminnistration is incomprehensible. There are now more than 3000 rugby clubs in the US and men's and women's rugby (7s) will return to the next Olympics. Rugby provides an athletic outlet for numerous campus athletes to express themselves. If you have 15 players, you have one team. If you have 45 players, you have 3 teams and all three teams play separate, full-length matches against opposing collegee opponents.What's the rational of the Colby administration to eliminate an Olympic sport that is exploding in popularity here in the US and the rest of the world.

Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the US; second most popular sport in the world, accessible to all, and making a return to the Olympics- albeit in the faster paced 7's format. Recent changes to the rules of engagement in the scrum by the IRB have increased the safety of the Forward positions; by reducing the likelyhood of collapse, and significantly reducing the impact upon players. Now is not the time to cut Rugby, but to embrace it! Grow Rugby!!!

I graduated from Hartford in 2009 and played rugby there. Every spring season I would look forward to playing Colby and talking to them after a game or tournament. I would be disappoint to see this program go as it is an asset to developing the sport in the northeast

One of the nicest afternoons I had this fall was watching the Colby team play UMF. I'm just starting to understand the game and you want to shut it down? Please reconsider. Maybe you could cut a little out of the football monies.
