Rugby is the most rewarding sport you could ever play. Taking away this program wouldn't be taking away a team, it would be taking away a family. Ruggers stick together.

Rugby was probably the best decision of my college life. Without it, college would've been a nightmare. Although I'm not directly related to the program, I wouldn't want anyone else stripped of that oppertunity.

As a coach of one of your current Colby College players, I urge you to maintain the rugby program for both men and women at Colby College. I have played rugby for 5 decades, and am still involved in the sport at age 56: as a coach, founder of one the premier "old boys" side, club administrator, and even player. Rugby is the only active and dynamic life time sport played throughout the world, one where one can play from a single digit age into some variation until one is ready for the grave. Millions of players can testify to the positive ethos that rugby player inherently make their own; courage, loyalty, fair play, commitment are some- and there is no other sport that forges such life long bonds of friendships that carry over into all aspects of life...through thick and thin. Remove rugby from Colby's athletic curriculum and you will remove a sport that goes beyond the few years of a university education; it will be as much a loss to Colby as it will be to the players.

I am a student-athlete who plays rugby at St. FX University in Antigonish, NS, Canada and I am behind you guys all the way in your fight to keep your teams! I don't know where I would be without my team, and I know I would not be doing as well as I am in school. I believe that being a student-athlete gives you leadership skills, time-management skills, and other life skills that are very important. Not to mention encourages a healthy lifestyle! Good luck (I sent the link to all of my teammates in hopes that they will also help you guys out!)

As a member of the Colby class of 1985, and the father of two girls that I hope will someday go to Colby, I do not want to see valuable programs cut. Losing the rugby teams at Colby, also adversely affects the remainder of the schools in the league. I hope you will reconsider, or at least open a dialogue with the current teams and coaches.

Sports on campus is about being more inclusive and not less. Keep rugby in the program and grow it.

I have been involved with the sport of rugby for over 35 years as both a player and a coach. During that time, I have never witnessed any injury that would not be expected in any contact sport. Numerous studies regarding sports injuries have been conducted over the years. The results of those studies indicated both football, and soccer reported more serious injuries. As a coach of a university club rugby team, players are required to sign waivers, freeing the university from any financial responsibility connected to physical injury while competing, or traveling to and from games. In addition, the rugby team, as all club sports is required to raise funds to support the club activities. I support the game of rugby, both personally and financially. I coached, and contributing hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket, to ensure the success of the Baldwin Wallace University Rugby Club.I encourage both players and alumni from Colby College Rugby to stay strong in their efforts to keep rugby alive ar Colby.

Rugby is probably the cheapest sport to support an as administration. It is also safer than sports such as hockey or football - look at the statistics.

Please save Colby rugby. As the parent of a former women's rugby player at another school, I can say first-hand that it was one of the most valuable activities she ever did in college. A drastic decision like this deserves more open discussion and a chance to consider all points of view. Very unfair that rugby was singled out here vs. football and hockey which both have far more documented health incidents. Very foolish to do this without the chance to invesitgate options to increase financial support. Please do not make this incorrect and drastic decision.

I coached against Colby Mens RFC whilst a Bowdoin College coach. The games were competitive and displayed great athletic team and individual talent. The loss of such a program within the Colby community can only diminish the quality of student entering working life. Of the hundreds of students I have coached all have proclaimed that the values, skills team work and decision making abilities that rugby has given them has secured interview success in their chosen careers. The lost of the program would be detrimental to Colby college.

Please reconsider the decision to end the program. From a financial perspective, Rugby is a far less stressful on the bottom line. A full Rugby roster is typically half that of a comparable football team. While injuries should certainly be a concern, they are part of any collegiate-level athletic program. My daugher has experienced far fewer injuries from Rugby than Soccer.
