You could not ask for a more dedicated PE teacher than Coach Sergio. The care he has shown my child during two significant impairments (a concussion and tendinitis) has been exemplary.

The things Sergio taught me have stuck for over 20 years now! He’s one of the few teachers I can remember from my childhood. Hoping there’s a solution to keep someone as impactful on staff at TPES.

I already left a comment here, but I realized after posting it that there is an anecdote I want to share.
I'm sure at least a few people here have run into a teacher outside of school. It is generally an awkward interaction.
One time I was at La Jolla Shores and my family and I ran into Coach Sergio and another man making very large and intricate sand castles by hand. With any other teacher this would have been pretty awkward, but not with Sergio. He invited me and the friends I was with to make the sand castles with him. He patiently explained and demonstrated the techniques used to make certain patterns, shapes, and structures. It was simply so much fun.
I hope this story speaks to Sergio's supportive and joy-inducing role in his students' lives.

First of all, I want to thank Coach Sergio for providing my friends and me with such a great PE experience. I loved the endless fun and learning he brought with his classes. Although PE only happened once a week in Elementary school, I always remember looking forward to PE. In addition to learning about different sports and being given many opportunities, Coach Sergio was always in class with a smile on his face. He remembers the names of all of his students and still remembers my friends and me, even though we are now in high school. For being such a great PE coach, making his classes so enjoyable, and being great with kids, I hope he is allowed to remain a teacher at TPES. I believe that future kids and students should be allowed to have the same experience as we once did in Coach Sergio's class.

I was a student at Torrey Pines Elementary from K-5th grade (Currently in 10th grade at LJHS) and I got to know Coach Sergio pretty well while I was there. All I can say is that during my time there he was a truly fantastic teacher and person. He effortlessly kept spirits high and made our once-a-week class with him a once in a lifetime experience. Not to mention that TPES was the leading champion in the Junior Olympics as a result of his hard work and dedication. I would be sad to see him go. But no matter what happens, Coach Sergio’s PE class will always be one of the most memorable times of my childhood.

It would be sad to see such a good person and loyal TPES teacher leave because of an administrative issue.
Coach has been an important mentor figure to our son introducing him to sports and outdoor activities. He would be sorely missed.

I'm not sure Coach Sergio remembers me, but I was in his PE class probably around 2015 in 3rd grade. He was one of the greatest PE teachers I've ever had and truly an amazing man. The anecdotes he's given, the lessons he's taught, all of which are invaluable and an experience that virtually no other teacher has offered. I usually didn't like PE but I liked his class. I hope he stays.

Best PE teacher I've had in my time in school. Kind of stupid that they're trying to remove him even though he was probably the best teacher that prepared me for Middle School PE ever. Thanks Sergio.

Sergio is the most dedicated and rightful educator the world will ever know. Sergio played alongside us and made the deepest student-teacher connections of any educator. He didn’t stick to some bland modified games you will soon discover in middle and high school. We jumped right into activities without wasting time on useless warmups. And most importantly, we were happy. When I came home from school (and I didn’t come home, I biked home after Sergio left), I didn’t talk about the classroom, I talked about recess with Sergio. Sergio carried the after school program. Kids my age didn’t need video games, didn’t discover video games because we had Sergio. I played soccer with Sergio every day for 5 years and I enjoyed every minute of it. If u scraped your knee you didn’t run to the school nurse, you ran to Sergio. If you needed anything Sergio was there for you. Never has PE class been more joyful and purposeful. In middle school, it would take us a full week to learn the rules to play games. With Sergio, we would be playing on the first day. Not only did he run his classes efficiently, the start of many passions for sports and friendships started with Sergio. TPES will never find someone equally qualified and competent. Sergio is the greatest teacher I have ever had. The fact that Sergio is even at risk of leaving the school proves the deterioration of the administrative process at TPES.
